PRINCETON, N.J. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision the Princeton Tigers, their first setback of the season.
Katie Wright anchored a solid defensive effort for the Stags, recording five saves in the loss.
The Tigers were able to score a goal in each half with Grace Sherman tallying the game's first goal in the 13th minute while Aria Nagai capped the scoring in the 82nd.
The defense of the Stags was tested throughout the contest as Fairfield faced 21 shots while allowing seven on target. One of Princeton's first early chances came in the 35th minute with the Tiger striker right in front of the net, but
Tory Bike was able to clear the ball away from the line.
Sam Erickson also had a good defensive showing in the second half, including putting away a Tigers chance by chasing down the striker and stripping the ball away with a slide tackle.
Meghan Carragher turned away a shot in the 86th minute as she dove in front of the incoming shot to have her body hit away the attempt.
Fairfield had all three of their shot attempts in the second half with
Maddy Theriault creating the best chance as her left-footed strike hit off the crossbar.
Sam Kersey had her attempt go wide in the 52nd minute while
Elle Scott's effort traveled high in the 65th.
Fairfield will return to Lessing Field when they host Bryant on Thursday night at 7pm.
