Doubles Sweep Send Stags Past Siena 5-2

LATHAM, N.Y. – A strong performance in upstate New York saw Fairfield University men's tennis leave the Empire State with their first conference victory of the season, defeating Siena 5-2.

"Nice rebound after a tough loss Sunday," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We did what we needed to do and now we look ahead to Marist."

The Stags opened the match with a trio of victories to sweep the doubles round, beginning with a 6-3 win for Jonathan Olive-Blanco and Keean Shah in the top flight, their ninth win together this season. Kaya Gore and Will O'Brien teamed up in the No. 2 duel, cruising to a 6-1 victory, and in the No. 3 contest, Andrew Immink and Charlie Morkel nabbed a 6-3 victory, improving to a perfect 5-0 as a tandem.

Later in the match, Gore took rallied back from an open set defeat to take his team-leading 17th singles win of the year, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the topflight, improving to 10-1 in matches in the No. 1 spot. Morkel collected his 15th win of the campaign in three sets as well, dropping the opener 4-6, before taking the following two sets 6-2, 6-2, and in the No. 3 duel Olive-Blanco brought home a straight set victory 6-4, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Sam Hodges rounded out the day for the Stags with a three-set win, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

Fairfield men's tennis is back in action Monday when they return to upstate New York to take on Marist. First serve between the Stags and the Red Foxes is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
