FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University rowing teams have reached the championship portion of their schedules which begins this Saturday when they both compete at the New England Championships. The men's schedule continues to Dad Vails and IRAs following the team's run at New Englands while the women's slate places the team at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships with a chance to advance to the NCAA championships.
Both teams have enjoyed successful spring showings this year with the women capturing MAAC Boats of the Week on multiple occasions. Most recently, the varsity 8, the 2nd varsity 8, and the varsity 4 each collected the accolade in their respective class after their performances at last weekend's tri-meet with Lehigh University and La Salle University.Â
The men also traveled to the tri-meet with Lehigh and La Salle and came away with solid times against the two schools. The varsity 8 and the 2nd varsity 4 came away with the best finishes on the day. The varsity 8 was runner up in its race, trailing Lehigh at the line while the 2nd varsity 4 was also second in its event with La Salle.
The New England Championships will take place on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. with heats beginning at 8 am and running through approximately 12 pm. The finals will start after 1 pm and run through approximately 6 pm. You can follow the action via the New England Championship live stream on
