Stags Take Doubles Point; Fall to UConn 1-6 Wednesday Night

MANCHESTER, Conn. – For the second time in as many matches, Fairfield University women's tennis was able to capture the doubles point on the day, but fell 6-1 to UConn Wednesday afternoon.

"The 6-1 score doesn't show how close this match was. With 4 three-set matches if a handful of points go our way, it's a win for us. With that said, I love how we responded today down a starter. Everyone battled and came close - these matches will help us as we get into March and April. Congrats to Lucie Tuttle for her first dual match win, her and Sophia played great!"

The Stags kicked off the match with a win in the top doubles flight from the pairing of Sandra Bozinovic and Francesca Karman who earn their first win together this season. The Huskies would follow with a win at No. 2 doubles, raising the stakes for the No. 3 bout which featured Tuttle and Sophia Prinos. Neither side would give way in the contest, forcing the match into a tiebreak at 6-6, which the Stags came away with 4-2 to secure the doubles point.

Singles play was just as contested as the doubles' rounds, with four of the six flights needing three sets to settle the score. In the No. 1 match, Bozinovic rallied back from a first set defeat to force a third, but fell to UConn's Julieanne Bou 4-6, 6-4, 5-7. The same occurred for Prinos at the No. 6 singles spot and Amanda Nowak at No. 3 singles, who would need a tiebreaker to setting her score, level 6-6 in her match against the Huskies' Caroline Cook.

Fairfield women's tennis returns to action Saturday when they head down to Pennsylvania to take on Lafayette. First serve between the Stags and the Cougars is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from the Sullivan Courts in Easton, P.A.
