WILMINGTON, N.C. - For the third time this season Fairfield University men's tennis team captured the doubles point on the day, but this time were outlasted in the singles rounds, dropping a 5-2 to UNC Greensboro Saturday.
Kaya Gore and Sam Hodges pushed their undefeated record to four as tandem, earning a 6-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles, which was followed up by a win in the No. 3 game by the Fairfield pairing of Charlie Morkel and Will O'Brien who gave up just a single game en route to a 6-1 win. Jonathan Olive Blanco and Keean Shah teamed up for their team leading seventh win together in the top doubles flight, but would go unfinished after the Stags clinched the point with Morkel and O'Brien's win.
In singles play, Shah would complete his unbeaten day in thrilling fashion, as he came back from an opening set defeat to win the No. 5 bout in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. That would be one of three matches to go the distance in the solo rounds, but Shah would come out as the only victor for the Stags in the first of back-to-back matches in Wilmington, N.C.
Fairfield men's tennis is back in action tomorrow, taking on UNC Wilmington to complete a weekend road trip to the Tar Heel State. First serve between the Stags and the Seahawks is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
