EASTON, PA – Three players earned clean sweeps on the day as the Fairfield University men's tennis team took a 6-1 victory over Lafayette Saturday afternoon.
"The guys had a really solid performance today, said head coach Jeff Bricker. "This was a good tune-up before we head down to Wilmington this weekend."
Charlie Morkel and Keean Shah teamed up in the top flight for Fairfield, as the two paired up for the first time this season, earning a 6-2 win. Kaya Gore and Sam Hodges would be the No. 2 duo for the Stags, taking down Lafayette's William Barry and Ross Coleman, 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for the visitors.
After taking the doubles round 2-1, Gore was the first to win in singles play, taking the top flight in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to give Fairfield the first two points of the match. The Leopards would gain a point back in the No. 4 dual, before Schlesinger swept his opponent 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 bout to put his side one point away from clinching the match.
The sealing point would come at No. 2 singles as Morkel earned his ninth solo win of the season with a three-set win 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (8-3). O'Brien was the next to wrap up in the No. 6 contest, taking a straight set win 6-2, 6-4\, and Immink capped off the day rallying back from a first set defeat to win in three at No. 3 singles, his eighth victory this season.
Fairfield men's tennis returns to action next weekend when they take an extended trip to North Carolina to take on UNC Greensboro and UNC Wilmington on Feb. 19 and 20.
