RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Fairfield University Volleyball secured the outright MAAC Regular Season Championship on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep at Manhattan. Mikayla Haut led the attack with 11 kills and the defense limited the Jaspers to a -.077 hitting percentage.
With their eighth consecutive win, the Stags move to 21-6 on the season and 15-1 in the MAAC. Fairfield also completes a 9-0 run through the MAAC road slate – the Stags are 10-1 in true road matches with their only road loss coming at Michigan State back on Aug. 27.
Manhattan falls to 1-26 overall and 1-16 in conference play.
Haut was the only player in double figures with her 11 kills. Sara Daniels and Allie Elliott each pitched in six, with Maya Walker adding five and Ella Gardiner putting down three. Blakely Montgomery went over on two for a pair of kills from the setter spot and Nya Jones terminated her only swing for one kill in one set of work.
Montgomery ran the attack for the first two sets and dished out 17 assists. Abby Jandro took over the in the third frame and racked up eight helpers.
Rounding out the offense, Avery Schner served up three of the Stags' nine service aces. Elliott and Noelle Carey each landed a pair of winners, and Jones and Morgan Doll had one apiece.
The defensive effort at the net was started by Daniels and Gardiner, who each had a hand in four of Fairfield's 11 team blocks. Jones, Haut and Walker were each a part of three rejections.
At the net, Carey posted a team-high nine digs followed by seven for Montgomery and five apiece from Doll and Kyla Berg.
"Our focus right now is on getting better every day," said Head Coach Todd Kress. "We have four days of practice this week and short week after that before we head down to Orlando. The blinders are on and we need to be laser focused on our goals."
Next weekend, the Stags return home to close out the regular season with the final matches scheduled for the RecPlex. Fairfield hosts Rider on Saturday, Nov. 12 and Saint Peter's for Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 13 with both contests slated for 1 p.m.
The 2022 MAAC Championship will be held on Nov. 16-19 with all 10 MAAC Volleyball teams trekking down to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
