FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University softball team will play a robust schedule that includes more than 50 contests in 2022. The Stags will also travel for North Carolina, Florida, West Virginia, and New Jersey for in-season tournaments, providing the team with 21 games before they begin play in Connecticut in late March.
The softball team starts the 2022 campaign at North Carolina State University for a tournament that also includes Mount St. Mary's and Lehigh University that runs from February 18-20. The tournament slate continues from February 25-27 when the Stags head south for a run in the University of South Florida Tournament, providing dates against the host school as well as St. John's University and Saint Joseph's University.
Next up on the schedule is a five-game stay at the Marshall University tournament that involves a pair of games against the Thundering Herd as well as games against Norfolk State University and Western Carolina University. After a doubleheader at St. John's University on March 16, the Stags will drive south to Rutgers University for a tourney with the Scarlet Knights as well as Holy Cross and Stony Brook on March 18 and 19.
Fairfield makes its Nutmeg State debut on March 23 when it stays nearby for a road game with the University of Hartford before opening a three-game home stand with a doubleheader against Stony Brook on March 26 as well as a single game with Yale University on March 30.
April brings about the start of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, opening the slate with road doubleheaders at Rider University on April 2 and at Monmouth University on April 3. Then, it's back to non-conference play as Columbia University comes to Fairfield's campus for a single game on April 6.
The Stags take to the road once again for a six-game trip that begins with doubleheaders at Siena College on April 9 followed by a twin bill with Marist College on April 10. Two non-conference games are next on the docket with match ups against UConn on April 13 and Sacred Heart University on April 14.
The team begins its longest home stand of the year following the Sacred Heart date, playing eight straight games at Alumni Softball Field. The run begins with MAAC doubleheader against Saint Peter's on April 16 followed by a single game against the University of Hartford on April 19. Back-to-back MAAC dates ensue with Canisius coming to town for two games on April 23 and Niagara for a pair on April 24. The stretch concludes with a date against Sacred Heart on April 26.
The calendar sends Fairfield away from campus for three games during the week of April 25 with match ups against Army West Point on April 27 and Iona College for a pair of April 30. The regular season comes to an end with home doubleheaders against Manhattan College on May 7 and Quinnipiac University on May 8.
Postseason play begins on May 11 for the 2022 MAAC Championship which will be comprised by the top six teams in the conference standings for a double-elimination tournament on the campus of the regular-season champion.
