FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team will complete a brief two-game home stand on Friday afternoon when it hosts Columbia University at University Field beginning at 4 pm. The game will mark the second date against an Ivy League team, traveling to Yale University earlier in the season.
The Stags come off a last-minute setback against Temple University, falling by 1-0 score with one minute left in the second overtime. Fairfield's defense was impressive in the match, keeping the Owls from putting together any sustained attack. Goalkeeper
Zoe Rosen made eight saves in the match including four in the crucial fourth quarter. Making stops is nothing new for the goalkeeper as Rosen has made seven or more saves in four of her six starts including double-digit efforts against Albany (11 saves) and Monmouth (13 saves). The graduate student is still nationally ranked for saves per game, ranking eighth with seven stops
every 60 minutes.
The offense suffered its second shutout of the season after putting back-to-back offensive efforts in wins over Yale and Quinnipiac. Fairfield started the run with a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs before netting a season-high with its 3-0 decision at Quinnipiac. Fairfield has enjoyed more offensive success on the road this year, posting seven goals in their four games away from campus. At home, the team has scored just one goal which came in a 2-1 decision against Monmouth.
Danielle
Profita and
Madison Hoskins represent the team's top scorers, registering five points off two goals and one assist each. Both of
Profita's goals came in the 2-1 win over Yale while Hoskins collected her goals against Albany and Monmouth.
Malen Iglesias,
Page Lowry,
Jolanda Richter, and Emma
Radebaugh have also posted a goal this season with Iglesias and Richter each scoring a game-winner.
Columbia enters this match with an unblemished 4-0 record, an unbeaten streak that was prolonged with the Lions' 3-2 decision over Albany on the road. The team has tallied 18 goals in its four games including a season-high in a 7-1 victory over Davidson in the season opener. Columbia has registered at least three goals in each of its games this season.
Kelsey
Farkas represents the team's top scorer with four goals and three assists for 11 points with one of those goals deciding the game. She has a goal in three of the team's
four games including a pair in the season opening win. Sophie Rockefeller is next in line with seven points, registering two goals and three assists in her four appearances. Alexa
Conomikes has made 19 saves in her four starts in the Columbia cage, owning a 1.25 goals against average with a .792 save percentage.
