Field Hockey Secures Road Win Against Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team earned its second straight road victory and third of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Quinnipiac University this afternoon. Graduate student goalkeeper Zoe Rosen picked up her first shutout of the season and the 10th of her career, facing six shots through her 60 minutes of work.

The Bobcats had the better of play in the first quarter, setting themselves up with opportunities that did not produce any results. Quinnipiac worked its way around the circle through the first 15 minutes, which produced three shots. Fairfield could not find any offensive rhythm in the first quarter, finding itself limited to just one shot. Danielle Profita started the scoring opportunity with a penalty corner which ended back on her stick to account for the team's lone attempt.

Fairfield picked up the pace in the second quarter and took full advantage of its three shots in the period. The Stags scored twice off those attempts with the first coming three minutes into the quarter. Once again, Profita was the play maker, bringing the ball into the offensive third and sending a pass to Jolanda Richter. The senior controlled the ball and released a shot that beat the goalkeeper to the corner, giving the team a one-goal edge. The second goal came with under six minutes remaining in the half when Page Lowry put home an unassisted shot which skipped past the goalkeeper.

The lead went to three goals in the third quarter on Fairfield's only shot of the period. Malen Iglesias began the scoring chance by dishing a pass to Emma Radebaugh. The freshman collected the pass and drove a shot into the back of the cage for her first collegiate goal. With a three-goal lead in hand, the Stags defense limited the Bobcats to just one more shot which came in the 51st minute. Emilia Massarelli was responsible for the attempt, but the ball sailed high to keep the shutout intact.

"We built on the momentum we gained against Yale last Sunday," Head Coach Jackie Kane said. "We worked on some small details this week which paid off this afternoon. I loved the fact that everyone stepped up against a quality opponent like Quinnipiac. This was an excellent team win."

Fairfield returns to the pitch on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Temple University at University Field. Game time is scheduled for 12 pm.
