Field Hockey Continues Road Trip At Albany Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team will complete its season-opening road trip this Sunday with a non-conference match with the University at Albany. The game is scheduled for a 1 pm start and will be broadcasted on AE.tv (America East). The game marks the 11th meeting in the series between these two teams with Fairfield winning for the first time in the 2020-21 spring campaign season opener at University Field.

The Stags opened the season with a 4-0 setback against 20th-ranked Saint Joseph's University on Friday afternoon with all of the scoring coming in the first half. Fairfield's defense found its footing in the second half, surrendering just five shots over the final 30 minutes of the game after the Hawks managed 12 attempts over the first two quarters. Goalkeeper Zoe Rosen turned away all three second-half shots that made it on goal, giving her seven total saves in the game. The team posted three shots during the game with Julianna Kratz and Malen Iglesias being responsible for hitting the target.

Albany also opened its 2021 fall campaign on Friday afternoon, handing visiting Colgate University a 5-1 loss at Alumni Turf. The Great Danes scored in all four quarters including a pair of scores in the second quarter. Elaina Burchell posted two of the team's five goals with Julie Rodijk, Alison Smisdom, and Robyn Murray each adding support with one goal each. Albany goalkeepers combined for four saves in their 60 minutes of work on Friday. The Danes two-game home stand ends on Sunday with the team heading to Northeast Conference foe Wagner College next Friday before returning home for a September 5 match with UMass.

Fairfield returns home for its home opener on September 3 against Monmouth University before playing a pair of road games in-state against Yale University on September 5 and Quinnipiac University on September 10.
