Stags Place Second In MAAC Commissioner's Cup Standings

FAIRFIELD, Conn. –Fairfield University athletics placed second overall in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's (MAAC) Commissioner Cup rankings as the organization announced the results of their annual standings today. The Stags also secured second-place finishes in the men's and women's Commissioner's Cup standings.

"I join our coaches, staff, and administration in congratulating our student-athletes for their achievement and expressing our appreciation for their dedication during a most unusual athletic year," Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann said. "Overcoming challenges is part of any successful athletic season and this year presented demands that extended beyond competition. Despite these obstacles, our student-athletes were able to maintain their commitment to excellence, one another, and the University which culminated with their strong finish in this year's Commissioner Cup standings."

Fairfield collected 111.50 points in the overall Cup standings, just two points off Monmouth University's total of 113.80. The Stags earned 53.50 points in the men's Cup ranking which trailed only Monmouth University's tally of 62.55 points. Fairfield secured 58.00 points in the women's Cup standings, just shy of Siena College's total of 59.75 points.

The MAAC Commissioner's Cup is awarded annually as a symbol of overall excellence in athletics in the 23 championships conducted within the MAAC. Only the scores from Men's & Women's Basketball, plus the top six men's and top six women's scores are usually used to determine an institution's total points. Due to the truncated seasons and fall sports being moved to the spring by the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancelation of Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field and Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, the 2020-21 Commissioner's Cup points were calculated based on the best scores in four championships plus Men's and Women's Basketball.
