Softball Takes On Quinnipiac In Midweek Doubleheader

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team will host its final regular-season home games on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Quinnipiac University for a doubleheader. The Stags and the Bobcats will play the first game at 2 pm with the second game to follow about 25 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Fairfield brings a five-game winning streak into the week, most of which came during the team's four-game sweep of Saint Peter's University last weekend. The run began with a win over Marist College in the final game of their four-game series the prior week. The Stags have 16 wins in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play which is tied for the second-most wins among conference teams, equaling the number of victories of Canisius (16-9) and Manhattan (16-10).

Evie Wright took over the team lead with a .385 batting average, a number aided by her performance in her six appearances last week. The freshman batted .500 with six hits in 12 at-bats with four runs scored and an RBI. She started the five of those appearances and has a hit in all of those games. Megan Forbes also enjoyed a solid week with a .375 batting average, registering nine hits in 24 at-bats, picking up two hits in three separate games. She also drove home seven runs with three doubles and a home run. Forbes is currently second on the team with her .347 hitting percentage which presents off a team-best 25 hits in 24 games played.

Katie Kudlacik leads the team from the pitching circle after posting three victories in four appearances last week. The right hander  tossed 24 innings including complete games win over Marist and two in the Saint Peter's series. She fanned 20 batters during the week with 14 coming in the 14 innings she tossed against the Peacocks. The junior has a team-best seven wins in eight decisions this year along with a 2.00 ERA.

Quinnipiac dropped all four games against Canisius College last weekend which leaves the team with 7-21 overall and MAAC records. Sophomores Cy Gonzalez and Katherine Rodriguez are enjoying solid seasons with their .340 and .337 batting average respectively. Rodriguez paces the offense with 32 hits and 16 RBI along with eight doubles. Kayla Thomas has used her 23 hits on the season to record 24 RBI. Tori McGraw has been most effective in the pitching circle, owning a 4-4 record with a 4.47 ERA.

After Wednesday's doubleheader, Fairfield will play six consecutive road games to close out the regular season. The Stags start the run with a pair of doubleheaders at Monmouth University on Saturday and Sunday. Both twin bills begin at 12 pm. Following the Monmouth series, Fairfield will head to Quinnipiac University finish up the regular season with a pair of games in Hamden.
