Beckwith, Ford Hit Career Milestones in Senior Day Loss to UMass

Beckwith becomes CAA’s all-time assists leader, Ford nets 100th career point

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Dylan Beckwith dished out six assists to become the CAA's all-time leader as a part of an eight-point effort to lead Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse on Saturday on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Travis Ford added four goals to hit the 100-career mark in the 21-14 setback to visit UMass.

Beckwith's 106 career assists surpass the 102 distributed by Delaware's Cam Howard from 2004-08. He is also fourth all-time in CAA history with 209 career points and 13th with 103 goals.

In addition to setting the new CAA standard for assists, Beckwith moved into second place on Fairfield's career charts with 106 helpers in his career. He is also fourth on the Stags' all-time points list – one shy of matching Fairfield Athletic Hall of Famer Spencer Steele for third place with 210.

Ford's four-goal day puts him at an even 100 points. The graduate student has now scored 79 goals as a Stag to go along with 21 assists from the midfield.

In Saturday's effort, the Stags also benefitted from career highs of three goals and four total points posted by Ryan Lancaster. Taylor Strough added two goals on his Senior Day, with Matt Chlastawa, Charlie Curran and Max Paparozzi.

Rounding out the attack, Chlastawa, Cole Barnard and Brian Reda each handed out one assist.

Peter Jones made his first career start in the cage, as the graduate student and United States Army veteran made two saves in his four minutes of action. Colin Consoli took over between the posts and made 10 saves, and Peter Leonard finished the day but did not face a shot on target in 2:43 of work. The defense in front of the cage was helmed by Tyler Burns with three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.

At the faceoff X, Dylan Smith went 12-of-20 and Frankie Labetti added five wins as the Stags were edged on the dot with 17 wins compared to 21 for the Minutemen.

UMass was led by a nine-point showing for Kevin Tobin with three goals and six assists, while Gabriel Procyk netted six with one helper. Matt Knote made seven saves in the cage to register the win.

Prior to the game, Fairfield Men's Lacrosse honored its seven member of the Class of 2021 as well as six graduate students wrapped up their collegiate careers this season: Jake Tymon, Matt Chlastawa, Charlie Curran, Cole Barnard, Taylor Strough, Peter Jones, Dylan Beckwith, Travis Ford, Lucas Pedersen, Tyler Burns, George Elmquist, Frankie Labetti and Zane Friedt.

"The plan for the week ahead is to enjoy every second that we have together, because this is the last week that this particular group will be together as a team," said Head Coach Andrew Baxter. "So we're going to enjoy it, have fun, prepare for Hofstra, and compete at the highest level we can on Friday night."

Up next, Fairfield Men's Lacrosse closes out the 2021 campaign with Friday night visit to Hofstra. Opening faceoff on Long Island is slated for 7:30 p.m.
