Siena Clips Stags on Senior Day, DeVita Posts 100th Career Point

Fairfield drops its first game of the season

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse was on the short of a 15-11 decision to visiting Siena on Saturday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Elizabeth Rowe netted her first career hat trick for the Stags, and Diana DeVita dished out two assists to reach 100 career points.

With the loss, Fairfield falls to 6-1. The Stags had won their last 17 MAAC regular season contests and their last 22 overall against MAAC competition – including back-to-back MAAC Championship runs in 2018 and 2019. Siena, who was on the other end of Fairfield's 2019 title win, improves to 5-2.

Fairfield erased an 8-4 deficit in the first half, scoring four goals in the final 5:43 of the half to enter the intermission knotted at 8-8. However, the Saints scored four of the first goals coming out of the locker room and kept the Stags at arm's length the rest of the way en route to the 15-11 road triumph.

Rowe's hat trick nearly doubled her career scoring total as she now owns seven career goals. Meaghan Graham was the only other Stag with multiple markers, netting a pair of goals on her Senior Day.

For DeVita, her two assists run her career total to an even 100 points. She has scored 54 goals and ranks ninth in Fairfield history with 46 career assists. The senior has tallied two or more points in six of seven outings this spring.

Kelly Horning also had a two-point day as she scored her team-leading 18th goal in addition to an assist. Horning filled out the statsheet with six draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. She ranks second in the MAAC with 3.57 ground balls and 2.43 caused turnovers per game as one of only two players among the top-10 in both categories.

Rounding out the scoring on the day, the Stags got single goals from five players: Nicollette LaVista, Maggie Fort, Ellie Grefenstette, Cameryn Dera and Arianna Lavelle.

On the defensive end, Keyla Bay and Caroline Mangan each picked up a pair of ground balls. Phoebe Proctor served the majority of the minutes in goal and made five saves.

Mary Soures led the Siena attack with a seven-goal day. Kaitlyn Dowsett added a hat trick for the Saints, and Ally Mervine made nine stops in the cage.

After playing their first game in two weeks, today's outing was the first of five contests over the next 18 days for the Stags to close the regular season. Up next, Fairfield plays a two-game set at Iona beginning Friday at 3 p.m. in New Rochelle.
