Men's Soccer Continues Road Swing At Monmouth

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's soccer team will return to the pitch on Thursday for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match at Monmouth University, the first of two scheduled road games this week. The Stags are also slated for a Saturday date at Rider University.

Fairfield will play for the first time since the team scored a season-best three goals in a setback against Saint Peter's last Thursday. The Stags saw three different student-athletes find the back of the net, beginning with sophomore Alex Oliveira's goal in the 26th minute. The goal was Oliveira's second goal of the season which pushes him to the top of the team's scoring leader board with two goals and four points.

Jonathan Filipe added the team's second goal which was followed by Thomas Drillien's first Fairfield goal. The duo became the third and fourth Fairfield student-athlete to score a goal this season, giving the Stags five goals in three games.

Gordon Botterill, who faced two penalty kicks in the Saint Peter's match, made three saves against the Peacocks which raised his season save total to nine in three games. He enters this week with a 1.57 goals against average and a .643 save percentage.

Monmouth owns a 1-1-1 overall and MAAC record after playing to a scoreless draw against Siena College on Sunday. The Hawks only loss came in double overtime to Iona College, a 2-1 decision that ended in the 98th minute.

Liam McGregor scored the team's lone goal against the Gaels which also represented his second goal of the season. He also posted the team's fourth goal in the 81st minute as the Hawks opened the campaign with a 5-0 victory against Manhattan. Griffin Tomas and Robin Oswald are next in line with a goal and an assist for three points.

Goalkeeper Sean Murray has played all three games for the Hawks and registered a 0.61 goals against average with an .857 save percentage based on his 12 saves.

Following this road trip, Fairfield will host Manhattan College on Monday, April 5 for its final regular-season home game of the spring season. The Stags and the Jaspers are slated to kick off at noon.
