Stags Host Delaware in CAA Opener, Saturday at Rafferty Stadium

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse begins the home portion of the schedule and starts the eight-game Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) slate this Saturday, March 6 with a visit from Delaware. The action on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium will be broadcast live beginning at 4 p.m. on the Lax Sports Network.
 
Fairfield enters the contest at 0-1 after dropping an 18-17 outing at Providence this past Wednesday. Patrick Drake paced the attack with a career-high six points (three goals, three assists) and Dylan Beckwith had a five-point day with two goals and three helpers. Colin Consoli got the start in the cage and made 16 saves in his collegiate debut.
 
Delaware comes to Rafferty Stadium with a 3-1 record, shaking off a season-opening loss to Mount St. Mary's with victories over NJIT, Saint Joseph's and Bellarmine. The potent Blue Hens' attack is paced by 16 goals from Mike Robinson. CAA Preseason Player of the Year Charlie Kitchen has added nine points – a goal and assists – in his two appearances thus far. Tye Kurtz has also only suited up twice and owns seven goals with one assist.
 
Primary faceoff man Jake Hervada is a shade under .500 at 28-for-57 at the faceoff X, and goalkeeper Matt Kilkeary boasts a .586 save percentage and 9.19 goals-against average in 235 minutes of work.

Fairfield Notes
  • The Stags were 4-0 at Rafferty Stadium last year, notching home wins over Stony Brook, Merrimack, Quinnipiac and LIU.
  • Eleven different Stags posted points on Wednesday, including the first points of their Fairfield careers for Matt Chlastawa and Shane Osborne.
  • Wednesday's 18-17 loss at Providence marked the most goals scored in defeat in program history. The previous mark came in a 17-16 loss to Boston College in the Stags' 1996 MAAC Championship season.
 
Stats and Streaks
  • With 17 goals on Wednesday, Fairfield has scored at least 12 markers in all eight games under Head Coach Andrew Baxter.
  • Dylan Beckwith has notched at least one point in 30 consecutive games. The streak, which began on St. Patrick's Day of 2018, has consisted for 61 goals and 65 assists.
  • With two goals and an assist in his Fairfield debut after an All-America career at Bates, Matt Chlastawa has registered a point in 51 consecutive games. He has tallied 141 goals and 139 assists for 280 points during that stretch.
  • Taylor Strough's four-point day on Wednesday ran his streak to nine straight games with two or more points.
  • Franklie Labetti went 18-for-28 at the faceoff X on Wednesday. Labetti has been over .500 on the draw in four straight games, owning a .652 success rate over that span.
 
Following this Saturday's contest, the Stags resume the non-conference slate on Wednesday, March 10 with a 4 p.m. visit from Lafayette at Rafferty Stadium.
