Late Run Sends Stags to 15-11 Victory over Manhattan

Fairfield sweeps the home-and-home weekend set with the Jaspers

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A five-goal flurry midway through the second half snapped a 9-9 tie and propelled Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse to 15-11 win over visiting Manhattan on Sunday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The Stags were led by seven points from Meaghan Graham and a strong goalkeeping effort by the duo of Olivia Conquest and Phoebe Proctor.

The Stags, who also defeated the Jaspers this past Friday in Riverdale, improve to 5-0 overall and in the MAAC. Manhattan drops to 0-4.

Graham's seven-point afternoon – which consisted of four goals and three assists – tied her career high set in the 2019 MAAC Semifinal win over Marist. Two of her tallies came during the decisive 5-0 stretch that turned a 9-9 deadlock into a 14-9 lead.

Kelly Horning also potted four goals on the day, adding an assist to round out a five-point afternoon. Brooke Lennon netted a hat trick with one assist, and Diana DeVita scored two goals and dished out one helper.

Rounding out the scoring, Maggie Fort scored one goal and one assist, Arianna Lavelle scored once, and Elizabeth Rowe recorded a pair of assists.

Conquest and Proctor split the day in the cage for the second straight game. Conquest made the start and notched six saves in the first half. After the intermission, Proctor took over goalkeeping duties and made nine stops for the second straight game.

The defense in front of the cage was led by three caused turnovers and two ground balls for Hailey Durkin. Caroline Mangan picked up four ground balls, and Keyla Bay collected three. In the midfield, Maggie Reynolds nabbed a team-best four draw controls.

Manhattan was led by two goals apiece from Carmella Liscio, Alaina Burgess and Deb Peifer. Asley Garmbardella made nine saves for the Jaspers.

Up next, Fairfield makes the trip to Western New York to cap the first half of the regular season with a Saturday, March 27 clash at Canisius. The Griffs are 1-3 after a wild 16-15 overtime win over Monmouth on Saturday.
