QUEENS, N.Y. – Several strong performances from Fairfield University Men's Tennis did not lead to victory on Friday afternoon in Queens, as the Stags were clipped by host St. John's by a score of 6-1.
Stathis Tsiranidis and
Keean Shah each claimed their first win as Stags during doubles action.
Tsiranidis teamed with
Lewis Edwards for a win at #1 Doubles while Shah paired with
Jonathan Olive-Blanco in the #2 spot.
"We came out and played with great energy in doubles, and it translated big time. After our last match we worked hard on doubles, so it was good to get that point," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "In singles, they were just too solid, especially lower in the lineup. Stathis and Jonathan had opportunities and played some very good tennis. I'm excited for Stathis and Keean to pick up doubles victories for their first wins as Stags!"
Playing at #1 Singles, Tsiranidis fell in a third-set tiebreaker to Djuro Opacic. Olive-Blanco was edged in a tiebreaker in the first set of his match at #2 before dropping in straight sets to Ignacio Garcia.
Fairfield will play one final non-conference match before the start of MAAC play, heading to Rhode Island to challenge Bryant on Sunday, March 21.
