FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will host Quinnipiac University for a two-game series beginning with a 2 pm tip off on Sunday afternoon. The Stags and the Bobcats will return to the hardwood on Monday afternoon for another 2 pm tip with both games being played at Alumni Hall.
The Bobcats will play for the first time since their 78-69 win over Niagara on January 23. In addition to the win, Quinnipiac celebrated Jacob Rigoni's 1000th career point when he netted a free throws just five minutes into the game. Rigoni, who leads the team in scoring with his 11.0 scoring average, finished the game with 11 points. Brendan McGuire came off the bench to register a double-double with team bests for scoring (19 points) and rebounding (10 rebounds). He is also the team's top scoring reserve with his 8.4 scoring average and averages 23 minutes on the court per appearance. Following this weekend's series, Quinnipiac will play a pair of games at Marist on February 13-14.
The Stags are looking to win for the second time in as many outings today, posting a 55-52 win over Marist on January 16. Newcomer
Jake Wojcik has been the Stags top scorer in each of the last three games and in five of the previous seven contests. The transfer, who has started all nine of his appearances this season, leads the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game and 13.0 points per MAAC contests. Just as important, Wojcik has been one of the team's top distributors with 2.3 assists per game.Â
Green is handing off 2.8 assists per game this season which leads the team and places 11th in the MAAC. The guard is also posting 8.9 points per game, trailing only Wojcik and
Taj Benning. Benning is netting 11.4 points per game but has been making a name for himself as a rebounder. The senior is averaging 4.8 rebounds per game since the Iona series while his 48 rebounds over the last 10 games are best among his teammates.
Chris Maidoh leads the team in rebounding with 5.5 caroms per contest, one rebound better per game than runner up Supreme Court's 4.5 rebounding average.
Following this series, the Stags have just two more home games on the schedule - a series with Canisius College on February 26 and 27. Fairfield plays six of its last eight games away from campus including a series at Saint Peter's (February 12-13), at Monmouth (February 19-20), and Manhattan (March 4-5).Â
