FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team fell behind early and could not mount a rally as they dropped their second-straight decision against Quinnipiac with a 60-44 setback on the road. With the loss, the Stags fall to 7-4 overall and 6-3 in the conference after being swept for the first time this season.
After a slow start, the Stags used a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 16-14 midway through the second quarter.
Sam Lewis and
Katie Armstrong each contributed a field goal during that mini stretch, which was started by two
Janelle Brown free throws.
However, the Bobcats would respond out of the timeout with a 12-2 run and take a 29-17 lead into the locker room.
Fairfield would look for another rally as they recorded another 6-0 run late in the third quarter. Lopez-Senechal notched five points in that stretch to bring the Stags within six at 38-32 before Quinnipiac pulled away again.
The Stags had trouble executing on offense throughout the afternoon, with a season-high 26 turnovers and a 29.7 percent shooting mark.
Lopez-Senechal was the lone Stag in double figures as she finished with 17, on 6-for-19 shooting.
Katie Armstrong neared a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Janelle Brown had another productive day with six points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Andrea Hernangomez added six points and grabbed eight boards.
The Stags will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Iona for a Wednesday afternoon contest at 4pm.
