FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After leading Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse to three straight MAAC Championships,
Laura Field has signed a new contract to remain on the sidelines at Rafferty Stadium through the 2024 season. Field has been with the Stags since 2009, and the spring of 2022 will be her seventh campaign as head coach.
"Under
Laura Field's leadership, the Fairfield Stags have been the standard bearer for MAAC Women's Lacrosse programs. She is a tremendous recruiter and teacher to the young women in her program and an outstanding ambassador for our university and the sport of women's lacrosse," said Director of Athletics
Paul Schlickmann. "Coach Field has been integral in the growth of Fairfield Women's Lacrosse into a perennial contender in the MAAC for more than a decade, and I believe that she is the head coach to lead the Stags into the national conversation for years to come."
After the 2020 campaign was cut short after just seven games, Field navigated the Stags through an unprecedented 2021 slate en route to a third consecutive conference crown. Fairfield went 10-1 in the regular season to claim a their third straight MAAC Regular Season Championship and won three MAAC postseason games on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium.
In six seasons at the helm, Field has led Fairfield to a 64-33 overall record and a 35-8 tally in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). She ranks second all-time in wins in program history behind her predecessor,
Mike Waldvogel, and slots third in career win percentage (.660).
"Thank you to President Nemec and
Paul Schlickmann for their support of our program and their trust and confidence in me and my staff," Field said. "It is a privilege to be the head coach of Fairfield Women's Lacrosse and to be a part of this incredible extended family of student-athletes, alumnae and friends that have helped build our program. The best is yet to come!"
Before assuming the head coaching mantle, Field had a seven-year tenure as an assistant, including the role of Associate Head Coach from 2012-15. That span is highlighted by MAAC Championships and NCAA postseason berths in 2009 and 2015. The 2009 Stags earned the program's first and only win on the national stage, upending Sacred Heart in the play-in round and nearly defeating a #4 Penn team that went on to reach the Final Four.
Field came to Fairfield after an eight-year stint with the Yale University women's lacrosse program, including an 11-5 season as interim head coach of the Bulldogs in 2008. That Yale team finished at #17 in the IWLCA national poll.
She played at the collegiate level at Princeton University, where she was an All-Ivy First Team goalkeeper in 1997. Field helped lead the Tigers to three NCAA postseason bids, including a run to the 2000 National Championship Game.
