Stags Start Three-Match Week on Thursday Night at Marist

Fairfield heads to Poughkeepsie for first meeting with Red Foxes since 2019

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball brings an 11-match winning streak and a 10-0 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference up to Poughkeepsie on Thursday evening to challenge host Marist. First serve between the Stags and Red Foxes is slated for 7 p.m.

One of eight teams in the nation with an active double-digit winning streak, the Stags' 10 MAAC wins currently stand as the most conference victories for any team in Division I this fall. Most recently, Fairfield posted a 3-0 week with a Wednesday road win at Siena followed by sweeping a home weekend from Manhattan and Iona. On the heels of the effort, KJ Johnson was named MAAC Player of the Week for the second time this season, and Mikayla Haut was tabbed as MAAC Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week (announcement).

Marist – the only MAAC team that Fairfield has not yet played in 2021 – in 12-9 overall and 7-3 in the conference. The Red Foxes are unbeaten on their current homestand with wins over Canisius, Niagara and Siena. The squad's three conference losses came via an 0-2 trip through Western New York to begin MAAC play and a five-set defeat at Rider on Oct. 3 in which the Red Foxes saw a 2-1 lead erased by the defending conference champs.

Marist played just four matches in the spring due to Covid-10 concerns. As a result, the Stags and Red Foxes are meeting for the first time since their five-set classic in the 2019 MAAC Championship Semifinals at Alumni Hall. Fairfield erased a 2-0 deficit in the match to upend Marist and went onto win the 11th MAAC Championship in program history. The Stags are 45-8 against Marist since 1990.

Thursday's trip to Poughkeepsie starts another three-match week for the Stags as Fairfield returns home to the RecPlex on Oct. 23-24 to welcome Niagara and Canisius. First serve on both Saturday and Sunday is slated for 1 p.m.

Fans who plan to attend this weekend's action are reminded that masks are required – regardless of vaccination status – when indoors anywhere on campus.
