Johnson and Haut Earn MAAC Weekly Honors

Duo led the Stags on the outside in a 3-0 week of conference action

EDISON, N.J. – Coming off of a 3-0 week of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action for Fairfield University Volleyball, the Stags' leaders on the outside have been recognized with MAAC weekly honors. KJ Johnson has been selected as the MAAC Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Mikayla Haut earns her second consecutive MAAC Rookie of the Week distinction.

Johnson – the MAAC leader in kills and points per set – continued to dominate conference competition in Fairfield's straight-set wins over Siena, Manhattan and Iona. The junior hit .417 for the week with 40 kills and just five errors on her 84 swings from the pins. Johnson averaged 4.44 kills per set, adding nine blocks and three service aces to boost her total to 5.28 points per stanza. She also averaged 2.33 digs per frame and handed out four assists.

On the season, Johnson leads the conference and ranks eighth nationally with 4.75 kills per set, while her MAAC-best 5.29 points per set are good for ninth in the nation. Johnson's .335 hitting percentage rates third in the MAAC and is the best in Division I among players with 650 or more attempts. She is the only player in the top 150 in total swings hitting better than .300 for the season.

"I'm thrilled for KJ to finally be recognized this week," said Head Coach Todd Kress. "Through the first five weeks of conference play, she has been the epitome of consistency at the highest level – leading all MAAC pin hitters in hitting percentage, kills per set and points per set and ranking among the national leaders as well."

Haut picks up her second straight MAAC Rookie of the Week nod after averaged 2.88 kills per frame on .203 hitting from the outside. She added four blocks and an assist. Haut's final performance of the week was her best as she got the start on the pin and sent home 11 kills in the Sunday sweep of Iona. The performance was her fifth match with double-digit kills this fall.

On the season, Haut is posting 2.44 kills and 1.00 digs per set and has added two aces and 18 blocks in 45 sets of work.

"This is another step forward for Mik toward the player that she will become," said Kress. "When her mindset is in sync with her physical gifts, the sky is the limit."

Up next, the Stags will travel to Marist on Thursday to play the Red Foxes – the one MAAC team they've yet to meet in 2021 – before returning to the RecPlex on Saturday and Sunday to host Niagara and Canisius.
