FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball program announced its All-Decade Team which includes 11 former student-athletes who excelled on the hardwood. Five starters, a sixth man, and five reserves comprise the team which includes players between the 2009-10 and 2018-19. The selection was based on fan voting on Fairfieldstags.com.
Starters
Front Court
Marcus Gilbert
Gilbert concluded his career as one of the program's top scorers, currently placing in the top five with 1,661 points. He ranks as one of the Stags' top three-point shooters of all time with 242, currently placing third at Fairfield. He collected three conference awards during his career including 2012-13 MAAC All-Rookie, 2013-15 All-MAAC 3
rd Team, 2015-16 All-MAAC 1
st team accolades. He is listed among Fairfield's top ten with 357 free throws made in 127 career appearances and led the team in scoring as a senior with 16.7 points per game which also placed fifth among overall MAAC scoring leaders.
Jonathan Kasibabu
Kasibabu scored 1,006 career points (7.9 ppg) and added 740 rebounds (5.8 rpg) over his four year career. He earned the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year award for 2018-19. The forward averaged just over one block per game in his career, rejecting 141 shots in 127 games. Kasibabu finished 3
rd in the MAAC with 7.4 rebounds per game as a senior.
Rakim Sanders
Sanders completed his college career with one season at Fairfield as a transfer. The forward was voted to All-MAAC first team after he tallied 615 points during the 2011-12 season. The point total is the third-highest single-season scoring total in Fairfield history. He owned a team-best 16.6 points per game which was also the fifth-best scoring average in the MAAC. Sanders placed third in the conference with his 8.3 rebounds per game and garnered 303 rebounds in 2011-12 which is the 10
th best single-season total tat Fairfield.
Backcourt
Derek Needham
Needham ranks as one of the top scorers in program history, currently placing fourth with 1,875 career points. He served as the team's top scorer in three of his four seasons, highlighted by his 16.4 scoring average as a freshman. The guard gamed MAAC Rookie of the Year, MAAC All-Rookie and All-MAAC 2
nd Team in 2009-10. The conference coaches also placed him on the All-MAAC 1
st Team (2010-11), as well as the All-MAAC 2
nd Team (2011-12 and 2012-13). He started all 132 career appearances. Needham held the school record with 281 three pointers made upon his graduation and currently stands second all-time at Fairfield.
Tyler Nelson
Nelson established school records for career points (2,172) and career three-point field goals (315) in his 127 appearances. He finished his career with a 17.1 scoring average which places eighth all-time in Fairfield's record book. The guard also set school standard with 732 points during the 2017-18 campaign. He was awarded All-Rookie as a freshman, All-MAAC 1
st team (2016-17 and 2017-18), and 2
nd Team 2015-16) in addition to garnering All-Met Writers accolades. Nelson was a two-time All-Region player by NABC and led the MAAC in scoring as a senior with 22.2 scoring average.Â
Sixth Man
Maurice Barrow
Barrow was a two-time MAAC Sixth Man Award recipient, collecting the honor in 2012-13 and 2011-12. He also earned a spot on the MAAC All-Rookie team following the 2010-11 season; He scored 1,309 points (9.6 ppg) and grabbed 709 rebounds (5.2 rpg) in 137 games. Barrow led the team in scoring as a senior with 14.0 points per game as well as with his 15.7 points per MAAC game despite starting just four of his 32 appearances and not one MAAC contest
Reserves
Yorel Hawkins
Hawkins played two seasons during the decade, registering 610 points and 221 rebounds over 52 games between 2009-10 and 2010-11. He picked up an All-MAAC third team berth after the 2010-11 campaign. The forward posted 1,043 career points (9.4 ppg) and 497 rebounds (4.5 rpg) over his 110 career appearances. He averaged a steal per game with 111 highlighted by 45 steals in his senior season.
Colin Nickerson
Nickerson served his teammates as a defensive specialist who led the team in steals twice. He collected 189 steals over his four seasons including team-leading totals in 2012-13 (56 steals) and 2010-11 (63 steals). The guard placed 2
nd in the MAAC during 2010-11 with 1.9 steals per game. He finished his career with 138 appearances which set the school standard in that category. Nickerson averaged 5.2 points per game by shooting 46 percent from the floor throughout his career and added 254 career assists to his offensive totals.
Ryan Olander
Olander received a berth to the 2010-11 All-MAAC second team after placing ninth among conference rebounding leaders (6.8 rpg) and second in field goal percentage (.532). He recorded five double doubles as a senior including 12 points and 10 rebounds in the Stags' NIT win over Colorado State. Olander averaged 7.1 points over his 136-game career at Fairfield and added 4.5 rebounds per contest.
Jerome Segura
Segura developed into one of the top guards in school history, dishing off 417 assists to place ninth in program history upon his graduation. He registered 160 assists in 2015-16 which was the 10
th best single-season total in Fairfield's record book. The guard played in 122 games with 92 starts including being part of the first five in 62 appearances during his sophomore and junior seasons. Segura tallied 677 career points, a 5.5 scoring average.
Amadou Sidibe
Sidibe garnered a spot on the 2012-13 MAAC All-Rookie team and secured a MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year award after leading the team with a 6.2 rebounding average over 34 games. He ended his Fairfield career with 855 rebounds (7.2 rpg) which ranks sixth in school annals, one of eight Stags to reach 800 career rebounds. He placed second in the MAAC for rebounding (9.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (.576).as a senior.
