Western Trip Sends Stags to Meet #14 Denver

Fairfield challenges the nationally-ranked Pioneers on Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse will make its longest road trip of the season this weekend, heading to Colorado for a meeting with #14 Denver. Opening draw at Barton Stadium is slated for 3 PM (Eastern) on Sunday, March 8.

The Stags (2-4) are coming off of their first road win of the season – a 15-9 triumph last Sunday at New Hampshire. Monika Sivilli had a four-point day to lead nine different Stags that contributed to the scoring in the victory. The balanced scoring effort also saw five Stags post identical offensive lines of two goals and one assist: Maggie Fort, Kelly Horning, Diana DeVita, Cameryn Dera and Elizabeth Talluto.

Maggie Reynolds led the backline with a career-best six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kennedy Slater also reeled in four ground balls. The defense was fortified by 12 saves and four ground balls from Olivia Conquest.

For the season, Horning leads the Stags in points (20), goals (16) and caused turnovers (14), and shares the team best in ground balls (20) with Reynolds. DeVita leads the way in assists with 10 to go along with her nine goals, and Sivilli has potted 14 goals through her first six games as a Stag.

Conquest has spent all but 12 minutes protecting the Fairfield goal en route to an even .500 save percentage (73 saves, 73 goals). Her 73 saves and 12.09 saves per game both currently rank eighth in the nation.

The #14 nationally-ranked Denver Pioneers are 5-1 on the season and unbeaten in four outings on their home field. The Pioneers most recently thrashed visiting Fresno State, 20-6, to rebound from last Sunday's 14-13 loss at Vanderbilt. Denver went 16-4 last season and reached the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals, where they fell to eventual National Champion Maryland in College Park.

Quintin Hoch-Bullen leads Denver with 25 goals and 32 total points. The 2019 All-Midwest Region and All-Big East First Team honoree ranks 10th in the nation in goals per game (4.17) and 15th in points per game (5.33). Hannah Liddy – a 2019 All-Big East Second Team selection on the attack – is the Pioneers' top facilitator with 17 assists as a part of her 24 total points. Her 3.40 assists per game rate her at sixth in the nation.

Reigning Big East Goalkeeper of the Year Carson Gregg has played the majority of the minutes in the cage, posting a .489 save percentage (48 goals, 46 saves) and an 8.63 goals-against average.

After Sunday's game, the Stags return to the Nutmeg State to meet another a team of Pioneers – crosstown foe Sacred Heart – at SHU's Campus Field to close out the non-conference slate on Wednesday, March 18.
