Men's Basketball Meets Iona At Webster Bank Arena Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team will play its final game at Webster Bank Arena on Sunday when the Stags host Iona College. Game time is slated for 2 pm. The game marks Fairfield's fifth game at the Arena this season. The team still has four more home games after Sunday but all four will be played on George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall.

Fairfield begins a run of games today that keeps it at home for five of the next seven dates including four straight games at Alumni Hall. The Stags dropped their fourth straight road game, a 65-49 decision at Siena College on Friday night. Wassef Methnani came off the bench to score 12 points and grab eight rebounds while Allan Jeanne-Rose tallied 10 points to lead all starters. The freshman earned his first start since he received the nod on December 5 at Canisius. Chris Maidoh paced the defense by securing nine rebounds and blocking three shots.

Fairfield's  49 points against Siena marked the third time this season in which the Stags failed to reach 50 points in a game, falling to Southern California (54-47) and defeating Canisius (46-42). Despite the loss, Fairfield remains poised above .500 since December 1, owning an 8-7 record which includes a 3-1 mark against non-conference foes.

Landon Taliaferro remains the team's leading scorer overall with 13.1 points per contest while Jesus Cruz places second with his 11.4 scoring average. Cruz became the first Stag to reach the century mark for field goals made, posting 101 in 22 games this year. Maidoh's rebounding average hit 5.0 following his performance against Siena. 

Fairfield remains the top team in the MAAC for overall scoring defense by allowing 63.3 points per game, holding a slight lead over Manhattan (64.0 ppg). The Stags are are also first in the conference for scoring defense in MAAC games, allowing 62.2 points per game. Saint Peter's ranks second in MAAC scoring defense, yielding 62.5 points per contest..

The Gaels halted a three-game skid with their 21-point win over Quinnipiac on Friday night, 73-52. The 73 points are the most since the Gaels posted 88 points in a win over Monmouth, a game in which they connected on 17 three-point field goals. The 73 points are the second-most points scored in an Iona win and most since defeating Kennesaw State on November 23 (75-52). The Gaels' offense was enhanced with five double-digit performance on Friday night with E.J. Crawford leading the way with 18 points, followed by Isaiah Rose's 16 points, Dylan van Eyck's 15 points, Isaiah Washington's 13 points, and Tajuan Agee's 11 points.

Four Iona student-athletes are above 10 points for the season as well with Crawford netting a team-best 17.4 points per game. Agee (13.4 ppg), Washington (10.5 ppg), and Asante Gist (10.1 ppg). The Gaels' defense has caused its share of turnover this year with more than half of the opposition's 14.2 turnovers per game coming off steals. The Gaels rank second in the MAAC with 7.7 steals per contest as Washington is responsible for a team-best 1.6 steals per game.

Bridgeport residents will receive discounted admission to the game. Adults must present a valid driver's license, government-issued ID or other proof of residence. Children accompanied by an adult resident do not need to provide proof of residence.
  
Free Student Shuttle: A free student shuttle will run between Alumni Hall and Webster Bank Arena beginning an hour prior to tip-off through the end of the game.
