Armstrong, Lopez-Senechal Lead Stags Over Niagara

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Katie Armstrong and Lou Lopez-Senechal combined to shoot 9-for-10 from behind the 3-point arc while tallying for 47 points as the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team began their stay in Western New York with a 77-65 victory over Niagara. The win brings Fairfield's record to 8-2 in the MAAC, winning their second-straight.

"They both played phenomenal games for us," Head Coach Joe Frager said. "Both made big shots when we were being tested in the second half and that's all you can ask. They're both two of our go-to kids and they had great games."

Armstrong was on fire from the very beginning, hitting all three of her attempts from behind the arc in the first half and six of her first seven shots overall. With her hot start, Armstrong tallied 15 points in the first half to help the Stags grab a 20-point lead going into the locker room.

Armstrong had three of the seven 3-pointers for the Stags in the first half as four different Stags swished through a 3-pointer in the first 20 minutes.

The Stags jumped out to a double digit lead after the first quarter as the squad hit 10 of their first 14 shots in the first quarter. That lead would expand to as much as 24 in the second period.

Armstrong continued her hot shooting in the second half after hitting her first three shots of the half for a 9-for-10 shooting clip. That helped the Stags keep a sizeable advantage after Niagara's Jai Moore hit three long range shots to close within 13.

The Purple Eagles would get within single digits after Niagara went on a 14-2 run, including eight-straight points to end the period. Fairfield still led 55-48 heading into the final quarter.

The Fairfield lead would be cut to four after the fifth 3-pointer of the game by Jai Moore, but Armstrong hit a big 3-pointer to answer back. The Stags would answer back in a big way. Armstrong gave the Stags the momentum back on an answer back 3-pointer and Lopez-Senechal gave the Stags their biggest bucket of the game with a four-point play after connecting on her fourth 3-pointer of the contest. The four-point play put the Stags lead back to double digits.

After two Niagara free throws, Lopez-Senechal put the lead back to double digits with another 3-pointer, and the Stags would maintain a double digit advantage the rest of the way.

Armstrong led the Stags with 24 points on a perfect 4-for-4 showing from 3-point range and a 10-for-13 clip overall. Lopez-Senechal was right on her heels with 23 points on 5-for-6 shooting from behind the arc. Sam Kramer and Rachel Hakes led the passing attack with seven assists each.

The Stags are back in action on Saturday when they take on Canisius at 2pm.
