Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls Twice on Saturday

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Fairfield University Baseball team dropped both of their contests on Saturday, falling to Boston College 19-6 and to MEAC Preseason favorites North Carolina A&T, 8-2. The two setbacks drop Fairfield's record to 0-5 to begin the 2020 season.

Game One: Boston College 19, Fairfield 6
In the first meeting between the two Jesuit schools since 1982, the Eagles got off to a quick start scoring six times in the top of the first inning. The Eagles struck for three home runs with Sal Frelick leading off the game with a homer while Joe Suozzi and Peter Burns also going yard.

The Stags will have their biggest inning in the fourth as they tallied four runs. Dylan Reynolds had the first big hit with a RBI single and freshman Charlie Pagliarini highlighted the frame with a double that cleared the bases.

Fairfield added two runs in the eighth when Nick Esposito's single brought home Ian Halpin and Matt Ferriero.

But it was not nearly enough as the Eagles struck for 22 hits with their 19 runs.

Among the relievers, Billy Fitzgerald was impressive striking out five hitters in two innings. Dan Ryan was the lone Stag with multi hits and he also scored a run.

Game Two: North Carolina A&T 8, Fairfield 2
Dan Ryan kept that momentum going against the Aggies, singling in his first at-bat in the second inning, leading to Fairfield's first run. Matt Venuto would also single, and Ryan hustled to third. He would score on a Giacomo Brancato sacrifice to center.

The Aggies would tie the game in the bottom half of the frame, however, and notch three runs in the next two frames. They would highlight their scoring output with four runs in the eighth.

Brancato would drive in their second runs as well with a single in the ninth. Brancato and Venuto led the Stags with a pair of hits.

Nick Grabek led the staff allowing just one hit in two shutout innings.

The Stags will close out their stay in Greensboro, N.C., when they take on Boston College at 1pm.
