GREENSBORO, N.C., - UNC Greensboro completed the sweep of the Fairfield University Baseball team by a final 3-1 score. John Signore tossed the first four innings for the Stags in his first appearance in over a year.
 
Signore faced 17 batters in those four innings as he was making his first outing since recovering from injury last year. Signore induced two double plays in the first three innings and was also the benefit of a caught stealing at home with Justin Guerrera throwing the runner out at the plate on a pickoff attempt with the runner at first.
 
The Spartans loaded the bases in the fourth with nobody out and took advantage by hitting back-to-back sacrifice flies, the only damage on Signore's line.
 
Mike Cowell came in relief for the first time as a Stag allowing one run and striking out three in 2.1 frames. Ian Halpin, Jack Erbeck, and Tristan Amone combined to toss the final two shutout innings. Erbeck and Amone each retired the only batter they faced.
 
The Stags got an unearned run in the sixth when Mike Becchetti led off the frame with a single and would steal second, advancing to third on a throwing error. Dan Ryan drove him in with a RBI ground out.
 
Four of the five hits for the Stags came from the bottom of the order with Becchetti, Mike Handal, Charlie Pagliarini, and Mike Caruso all picking up a base knock.
 
Fairfield will return home but then head back to East Greensboro, N.C., to face Boston College and North Carolina A&T over the weekend. The Stags will first face the Eagles on Saturday at 1pm.
