First Road Test Sends Stags to UConn

Fairfield meets the host Huskies on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse hits the road for the first time in the young 2020 season with a Wednesday, Feb. 12 trip to UConn. Opening draw in Storrs is slated for 3 p.m.

Last Time Out
One run proved decisive in the Stags' season opener this past Saturday as visiting Holy Cross netted three-straight goals in the second half, then held off a late rally to escape Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium with a 10-8 decision. Diana DeVita, Monika Sivilli and Jillian Winwood each scored a pair of goals for the Stags.

Supplementing the two-goal outings for DeVita, Sivilli and Winwood were Meaghan Graham and Madeline Dent with one goal apiece. Winwood, Kelly Horning and Maggie Reynolds each doled out an assist for the Stags.

Horning also led the way in the midfield, collecting six ground balls. Maggie Fort added three ground balls and a team-leading four draw controls in her Stags debut. The Stags and Crusaders split the hustle categories with Fairfield holding a 24-18 lead in the ground balls while Holy Cross took an 11-8 edge on the draw.

In addition to her assist on the offensive end, Reynolds anchored the defense with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Olivia Conquest made eight saves in the cage.

Defensive Player of the Week
On the heels of her performance against Holy Cross, Maggie Reynolds was selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week. A 2019 All-MAAC Second Team selection and 2020 Preseason All-MAAC honoree, Reynolds earns the weekly nod from the conference for the first time in her career.

Scouting UConn
The University of Connecticut Huskies will be opening their 2020 campaign on Wednesday. UConn was selected to finish fifth out of six teams in the American Athletic Conference this spring after posting a 3-14 overall mark and a 1-4 tally in the AAC in 2019. The Huskies return their top three scorers from last season, Sydney Watson (39g, 12a), Lia LaPrise (20g, 17a) and Olivia Miles (26g, 6a). UConn also welcomes back starting goalkeeper Grace Beshlian, who posted a 14.49 goals-against average and a .429 save percentage in 815 minutes of work in 2019.

All-Time Series (UConn leads 12-5)
Fairfield defeated UConn, 13-7, last spring on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium to snap a seven-game losing streak and move the all-time series to 12-5 in favor of the Huskies. Three of the Stags' five wins over UConn have come in Storrs, though Fairfield has dropped the last four meetings played on the Huskies' home turf.

Up Next
Action returns to Rafferty Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 19, when the Stags host Columbia at 3 p.m.
