Softball Switches Schedule For Final Regular-Season Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team will switch its schedule this weekend in anticipation of inclement weather that could affect play. The Stags finish the regular season by traveling to Rider University on Friday, May 3 rather than the previously scheduled date of Sunday, May 5. The team will keep its date with Monmouth University on Saturday, May 4, a rematch of last year's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament championship game. Both the Rider and Monmouth doubleheaders are slated for 12 pm starts.

The Stags are looking to lock up a conference tournament bid this weekend, sporting a 9-7 MAAC mark which ties the team for fifth place with Niagara University. The top six teams in the final regular-season standings earn a spot in the tournament which will be played on the home field of the regular-season champion. Right now, Monmouth and Marist are tied for the top spot with both owning a 13-3 record in MAAC play.

Fairfield comes into this weekend with a 25-19 overall record after winning five of its last six games including sweeps of Saint Peter's and Iona in MAAC action. Amanda Ulzheimer raised her season average over the .400 mark during the team's current run, checking into the Rider twin bill with a .403 batting average. She has 52 hits to her credit which places her in a tie with teammate Mikayla Rubin for team lead in that category. Rubin places second among her teammates with a .369 batting average but has team bests in doubles (11) and RBI (30).

In the pitching circle, Katie Kudlacik continues to enjoy a solid rookie season with an 11-5 overall record and a 2.82 ERA through her 22 appearances. Lauryn Rhinehart has three wins and a save in her last five outings, giving the sophomore a solid 8-6 record with a 3.08 ERA in 22 games. Lacey Olaff remains the team's first option out of the bullpen, coming in relief 15 times in 16 appearances. She has a team-best two saves and a 1.99 ERA.

Rider has seven wins during the 2019 campaign with three of those victories coming against MAAC opponents. Kelsey Marigilano paces the offense with a .316 batting average, stroking 48 hits and swiping a team-best five bases. Rachael Zeides provides the Broncs with most of its power, collecting four home runs and driving home 15 runs in 50 starts. Brooklyn Trujillo has accounted for four of the team's victories in the circle, sporting seven complete games and 39 strikeouts. Debra Jones has three victories on her ledger, fanning a team-high 58 hitters in 96.1 innings of work.

Monmouth leads the MAAC in overall wins at this point of the season, winning 30 of its 45 games to date. The team has posted six wins over its last nine dates including a six-game winning streak from April 10 to April 17. The squad comes off a sweep of Siena College, handing the Saints 2-1 and 1-0 setbacks on Siena's home field. Kayla Rosado and Lindsey Baron represent the team's top hitters with .381 and .362 hitting percentages, respectively. Rosado has contributed a team-leading 30 RBI while Baron has accumulated 10 home runs. Pitcher Alyssa Irons has pitched 207 innings this season, registering a 24-9 record with a 1.45 ERA while in the pitching circle. She has fanned 187 batters while walking just 38 hitters.
