Softball Hosts Hartford, Honors Seniors On Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team will play its final regular-season home game on Sunday when it hosts the University of Hartford at Alumni Softball Field. Due to weather predictions, the game will be played one hour earlier with first pitch now scheduled for 11 am. Head Coach Julie Brzezinski and the team will honor the senior class prior to the game with the ceremony scheduled for approximately 10:45 am.

The game also represents the final non-conference game, a group of opponents against which Fairfield has enjoyed success this season. The Stags own a 15-12 record against teams outside of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) which includes a sweep of Hartford earlier in the season. Just as they have all season long, Amanda Ulzheimer and Mikayla Rubin lead the way against non-conference foes. Ulzheimer owns team-best .389 batting average along with a .429 on-base percentage. Rubin ranks second in batting average at .389 but owns a team-best .439 on-base percentage. Courtney Hankins, who has played in just 20 games this year due to injury, posted team-leading numbers in home runs (4) and RBI (21) during non-conference games.

Fairfield comes off a 13-3 setback against Sacred Heart as the Pioneers took advantage of four errors by the Stags which led to eight unearned runs. Rubin was responsible for two of the team's four hits while Cynthia Meringer and Maria Telle also picked up a hit in the contest. The loss was the first against a Connecticut-based team this year, posting wins in the first six games against Nutmeg State teams. A sweep of the University of Hartford was part of that run as Sam Merino, Kaitlin Hoffman, and Rubin all hit a home run during the twinbill.

Pitcher Katie Kudlacik brings a 10-5 record, the most wins by any Stag hurler this season, and a team-best 2.93 ERA. Her record against non-conference foes stands at 7-2 while Lauryn Rhinehart owns a 4-3 mark in those games.

Danielle Rocheleau represents the team's leader in batting average, registering a .438 mark over 43 games this season. She also serves as the Hawks' top run producer with four homers and 33 RBI, nine more than runner-up Paige Fedak's 24 RBI. Nicolette Barranger is also enjoying a solid season in the batter's box, recording a .343 hitting percentage with a .393 on-base percentage.

Hartford's pitching staff is anchored by Julianna Kocenski, who has accounted for 12 of the team's 18 wins this season. She has completed 14 of her 19 starts and is responsible for all three of the staff's shutouts. Isabella Gerone and Melissa Pereira each have three victories to their credit this season and have combined for 29 strikeouts.
