Softball Travels To Siena, Hosts Saint Peter's This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- With spring weather in question over the next few days, the Fairfield University softball will look to play a couple of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheaders over the next 48 hours, beginning with a make-up doubleheader at Siena College on Friday and two games at home against Saint Peter's on Saturday. The Siena games are a make up from a previously postponed doubleheader and will start at 10 am in an effort to avoid some inclement weather. The Saint Peter's games will begin at noon.

The Stags come off an impressive 4-1 win over Columbia University, a team which entered the week as the co-leader in the Ivy League. Fairfield saw four student-athletes each pick up an RBI in the game, namely Drew Westford (RBI single), Tahlia Brown (RBI single), Lauryn Rhinehart (sacrifice fly), and MIkayla Rubin (RBI single). Rhinehart was also a factor in the pitching circle, earning her fifth win of the season by tossing seven innings and scattering four hits with five strikeouts.

Amanda Ulzheimer remains the team's top hitter with a .390 batting average, posting 1.3 hits per game played and stealing eight of nine bases on the season. Rubin added to her team leading RBI total with her performance against Columbia, raising her total to 25 in 36 starts. She also collected a team-best nine doubles during the campaign in addition to her .371 batting average. Westford moved over the .300 mark with her recent performances and brings a .316 hitting percentage into the weekend.

Katie Kudlacik did not see any time in the circle during the Columbia game so her numbers will remain at nine wins with a 3.24 ERA in her team-best 75.2 innings pitched. Rhinehart took over second on the staff with her fifth victory on Wednesday and has a 3.77 ERA which also ranks second among her teammates. Karisa Hughen is another arm who has seen a great deal of action this year, winning four games in 73-plus innings this season.

Siena's Madysen Cossack continues to post impressive numbers from the batter's box with her .451 batting average, a number reached off her 41 hits during her 30 starts. She also ranks first on the squad with six home runs and 28 RBI and has collected 14 extra base hits when you add in her eight doubles. Maddie McMahon has been the team's top performer in the pitching circle with her team-best six wins and her 4.18 ERA. The pitcher averages almost a strikeout per inning with 61 in 70 innings pitched.

Saint Peter's has several student-athletes posting solid numbers to this point of the season with Alina Guevara pacing the offense with her 18 RBI and six two-base hits. Theamaris Ramirez and Alyssa Mido are next in line with 13 RBI and are among the team leaders with three and two home runs, respectively. In the pitching circle, Barbara Verrastro has accumulated three wins which represents the high total on the team, while Sydney Senerchia has contributed a pair of wins.
