FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield men's tennis took down St. Francis Brooklyn in a close contest on Senior day by a score of 4-3.
The Stags picked up the crucial Doubles point winning all three matches.
Anthony Caputo and
Jeffrey Rodgers took down Grant Louis and Daniel Blasco 6-3 at #3 Doubles while
John Hatala and
Allan Magid defeated Pablo Blasco-Torres and Stefan Gmijovic 6-4 at #2 Doubles.
Tyler Shibles and
Lewis Edwards then won at #1 by a score of 6-4 over Tomas Dirube and Facundo Couso.
In Singles play, Fairfield fell in the first three matches going down 3-1.
John Hatala started the comeback with a win at #6 as he defeated Pablo Blasco-Torres (6-4, 6-2). The seniors then stepped up to clinch the win as
Jeffrey Rodgers took down Stefan Gmijovic (1-6, 6-4, 6-4) at #4 and
Anthony Caputo finished off Grant Louis at #5 (7-6 (12-10), 6-7 (8-10), 6-3).
"The doubles point turned out to be huge for us" said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "Five three-set matches is about as close as it can get. We didn't play great today but we battled and got the win! Big time clutch performance from our seniors Jeff and Anthony for pulling out victories today and helping us win."
Fairfield will return to action on Tuesday at 3 P.M. as they travel to Hamden, Connecticut to take on Quinnipiac.
