Women's Tennis Takes Down Marist, Improves to 3-0 In the MAAC

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield women's tennis finished off Marist with a clutch win in the final match of the day as they improved to 3-0 in the MAAC this season.

The Stags played well in Doubles competition as Jessica Pil and Anna Komer took down Chloe Lant and Sophia Chavarria at #3 Doubles by a score of 7-6.  Unfortunately Fairfield could not find a win at #1 or #2 Doubles as Marist took the Doubles point to start the match off with a 1-0 advantage.

Fairfield would go down 2-0 as Emily Lombardi fell at #6 Singles but Aina March would put the Stags on the board with a win at #3 Singles over Sophia Moeller (6-2, 6-1).  Sophia Prinos tied it up winning her match at #5 Singles over Sam Galu (7-6, 6-3).  Diana Prinos then dropped a hard fought match at #2 Singles giving the Red Foxes a 3-2 advantage.  Anna Komer would tie the match once again as she defeated Chloe Lant in three sets at #4 Singles by a score of (7-5, 4-6, 6-2).  The match came down to an exciting battle at #1 Singles as Amanda Nowak fought through three sets against Julia Gabay ultimately winning it by one point (3-6, 6-3, 7-6) to seal the victory for the Stags.

"What a match!" said Head Coach Jeff Bricker.  "We played with so much heart today and got the win over a very good Marist team. We didn't play our best in doubles but we just have so much grit and determination in singles. These close wins are going to help as we move forward and I could not be prouder of the team!"

Fairfield will return to action on Saturday as they host Niagara at 2:30 P.M. at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
