BRIGHTON, Mass. -- The Fairfield University softball dropped a non-conference game against Boston College on the road this afternoon as the Eagles posted a 4-0 decision.
Amanda Ulzheimer scratched out the Stags' lone hit, a single to lead off the fourth inning, the first base runner of the game for Fairfield.
Boston College pitcher Camryn Dolby retired the first nine hitters she faced before Ulzheimer collected her base hit to start the fourth frame. The next two Stags were retired before
Kaitlin Hoffman was hit by a pitch to send her teammate into scoring position. Dolby ended the threat with a strikeout, her eighth of the game to that point. Fairfield would have only one more base runner in the game which occurred in the sixth inning when Ulzheimer worked out a walk with one out.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the fourth inning by piecing together a hit batter, a single, a walk, and a ground out that produced the run. Boston College added three more runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of two Fairfield errors. The team only managed two hits in the inning, none of which brought a run home.
Fairfield will return to action this weekend with a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheaders. The Stags host Canisius College on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 12 pm and come back with a twin bill on Sunday against Niagara with game time slated for 11 am.
