FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse opened the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) portion of the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium with a visit from Delaware. Despite a four-point day from
Travis Ford and a hat trick by
Patrick Drake, the Stags' wrapped up the first conference game of the spring on the short side of a 15-7 decision.
Dylan Beckwith added a goal and an assist to surpass the 100-point mark for his career.
Beckwith is the 17th Stag to reach 100 career points. His two-point effort this afternoon brings his career total to 101. He currently ranks 16th all-time in points, 27th in goals (49) and ninth in assists (52). With his next goal, Beckwith will become the ninth Stag with 50 career goals and 50 career assists.
On the season, Beckwith's team-leading 46 points are tied for 15th in Fairfield history. He has scored at least one point in 18 straight outings dating back to last spring and has registered multiple points in Fairfield's last seven contests.
With four points this afternoon, Ford runs his total to 25 (19g, 6a) on the year. The junior had his first multi-assist game as a Stag to go along with two goals. Ford has scored a goal in his last 10 appearances including five consecutive multi-point efforts and three-straight multi-goal games.
For Drake, his hat trick is his second of the year and snaps a three-game goal-scoring drought.
Rounding out the goal scoring was
Taylor Strough, who rattled the cage for the seventh straight game. Defensive midfielders
Brendan Dreyer and
Tyler Wuchte both contributed offensively as well, covering the field in transition to pick up one assist apiece.
Also in the midfield,
Frankie Labetti did his part to keep the Stags offense in action with a 13-of-21 day at the faceoff X. Labetti also collected six ground balls, moving into ninth on Fairfield's single-season list with 72 ground ball pickups this spring.
In the cage,
James Corasaniti made 13 saves to mark his sixth double-digit performance in nine starts during his freshman campaign.
Sean McKee finished the day in goal and saved the only shot he faced.
Delaware was led by standout rookie Tye Kurtz, who scored seven goals with three assists for a 10-point day. Charlie Kitchen added three goals and two assists for the Blue Hens. Matt DeLuca made 11 stops in the Delaware cage.
CAA play continues next Saturday, April 6, as the Stags conclude their three-game homestand at Rafferty Stadium against #10/11 Towson. Opening faceoff in the CAA contest is slated for 1 p.m.
The Tigers, who were the top-ranked team in the nation earlier this spring, are currently 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in the CAA after a 10-9 home win over Hofstra this afternoon.
