Last Time Out
In a game that was largely defined by two teams trading goals, the day's one true run proved to be decisive as Villanova scored to the last six markers to top Fairfield, 12-8, last Saturday at Rafferty Stadium.
Fairfield's attack was fueled by four players netting two goals apiece:
Dylan Beckwith,
Taylor Strough,
Travis Ford and
Jack Brennan.
Assists in the outing came from Beckwith, Strough,
Patrick Drake,
Brian Reda and
Tyler Wuchte.
Leading the way on the defensive end was
George Elmquist with five caused turnovers. Elmquist is the third different Stag to cause five turnovers in a game, joining Matt Scanlon – who did it twice – and Matt Petre.
James Corasaniti made 11 saves in the cage for Fairfield to post his fifth double-digit save performance in eight starts.
Scouting Delaware
The Delaware Blue Hens most recently defeated Michigan, 16-13 in Ann Arbor, to close out their non-conference slate with a CAA-best record of 7-2. Currently, Delaware is unranked but receiving votes in both the USILA Coaches' Poll and Inside Lacrosse Media Poll (see pg. 4).
Five Blue Hens have scored double-digit goals thus far in 2019, led by 22 goals and 12 assists from Charlie Kitchen for a team-leading 34 points. Rookie Tye Kurtz has also handed out 12 helpers to go along with his 17 goals to rank second on the squad with 29 total points. Joe Eisele adds 18 goals, Dean DiSimone has tallied 17 and Bryce Reid owns 12 markers to round out the leaders of Delaware's potent attack.
The Blue Hens are winning just under half of their faceoffs at .462 (97-210). Joe Lenskold heads that effort with a .457 showing (64-140) and 3.88 ground balls per contest. Jake Hervada was .692 (27-39) in two games as Delaware's starting faceoff man to begin the campaign but has not played since Feb. 16.
Delaware boasts the sixth-ranked scoring defense in the nation with only 8.78 goals per game allowed. That effort is led by goalkeeper Matt DeLuca, who ranks third in the nation with a .621 save percentage. Also on the defensive end, Austin Haynes is third in the CAA with 1.78 caused turnovers per game.
