Stags Overpower NJIT, 18-5, for Third Consecutive Win

Eleven Stags net at least one point in the victory

NEWARK, N.J. – Eleven players contributed at least one point for Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse as the Stags rolled past host NJIT, 18-5, on Tuesday evening in Newark, N.J. Dylan Beckwith led the attack with seven points and the Fairfield defense turned in its best performance of the season against the Highlanders.

Fairfield picks up its third consecutive win to improve to 5-3 on the season while NJIT falls to 1-8. Five goals allowed tonight mark the fewest for the Stags since a 5-4 victory at Hofstra last season. The 13-goal margin of victory is the largest since Fairfield topped Manhattan, 18-4, on Feb. 22, 2014.

Beckwith was one of three Stags to record a hat trick and also handed out four assists for a team-leading seven points. The junior reclaimed the CAA lead with 22 assists and 41 total points with his performance this evening and also became the 11th Stag to program history to reach 50 career assists.

Jack Brennan's hat trick was the fourth of his career and came as a part of a five-point evening. Taylor Strough also netted three goals to keep pace with Beckwith as the team's co-leaders with 19 markers apiece this spring.

Travis Ford and Brian Reda each had a three-point day for the Stags. Ford, who scored the overtime game-winner this past Friday against Utah, potted two goals with one assist while Reda score once and dished out a pair of helpers.

Of the 11 Stags to record a point, three picked up the first goal of their respective collegiate careers: Adam Aronowitz, Brian Crawley and Tyler Wuchte . In addition, Trevor Ford doled out his first assist as a Stag.

Rounding out the scoring, Cole Barnard had his first multi-point day with a pair of goals and Matt Sharpe registered a goal and an assist.

A quartet of Fairfield faceoff specialists did their part to keep the Stags on the attack. Frankie Labetti led the effort with an 11-of-15 showing and 10 ground balls before Liam Lynch came on in relief and posted a 7-fo-8 day with seven ground balls. Will Kirshner won both of his draws and Bill McMenamin came away with the final faceoff of the game to complete a dominant 21-of-26 performance by the Stags on the dot.

In the cage, reigning CAA Rookie of the Week James Corasaniti made 10 saves to earn his fifth win of the season. Peter Jones spelled Corasaniti for the final 1:40 of action and did not face a shot in his Fairfield debut.

The unit in front of Corasaniti was headed by Brian Cosgrove with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Lucas Pedersen made his first career start as the part of Fairfield's close defense and caused two turnovers with four ground balls.

NJIT was led by a hat trick from Ryan Darrow and two goals scored by Vincent D'Agostino. Alexzander Hunt made 18 saves in goal for the Highlanders.

Up next, action returns to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, March 23 as the Stags wrap-up the non-conference portion of the schedule with a visit from Villanova (3-4). Opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at FairfieldStags.com/TIX.
