FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Head Men's Soccer Coach
Carl Rees signed a multiyear contract extension after completing his 23
rd season with the program. Rees was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Coach of the Year last season after leading the Stags to the conference regular-season title. The announcement was made by Fairfield University Director of Athletics
Paul Schlickmann.
"I am very pleased to announce a contract extension for
Carl Rees," Schlickmann said. "He has built Fairfield into a perennial conference contender and one of the region's top programs over the last two decades. His positive influence on his student athletes is apparent by their continued success both academically and athletically. I believe he will continue to solidify the program's place regionally and nationally."
"I appreciate the confidence that
Paul Schlickmann has shown in me and will work tirelessly to continue to raise the profile of our program and the student-athletes that represent our great University," Coach Rees said.
In 2018, Fairfield finished the campaign with an 11-5-2 overall record and an unblemished MAAC mark at 8-0-2. Most impressively, the Stags posted a 7-2-0 record in road games in 2018 and were a perfect 5-0 in MAAC road games. His career record stands a 221-144-62 overall and 132-55-25 in MAAC play.
Success has become the norm under Rees, who has led the Fairfield University soccer program to five NCAA tournament berths. In 2006, the native of Bebington, England supervised the Stags' first-round national tournament win over the University of Connecticut, the first NCAA Division I tournament victory in school history. The Stags also advanced to the NCAA tourney in 1999, 2008, 2011, and 2017. The Stags have also earned a national ranking in six separate seasons under his tutelage.
His student-athletes have flourished both on the pitch and in the classroom through his guidance. Fairfield is regularly represented on the MAAC All-Academic and All-MAAC teams over the last 23 years, earning more than 60 berths on both of those prestigious teams. Plus, 16 Fairfield student-athletes collected a berth to the All-Region team.
