KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team finishes up its three-game run at the Orlando Invitational on Sunday morning with a match up against Texas A&M University. The game will tip off at 10:30 am and will be broadcasted on
ESPNU.
The Stags battled the University of Southern California and Davidson College in the first two games of the tournament, coming up seven points short against the Trojans and diminishing a 21-point deficit down to two points before falling late to the Wildcats. Senior Landon
Taliaferro leads the team in scoring over the two-game run in Florida, averaging 13 points per game.
Jesus Cruz is the other Stag to average in double figures, netting 11.5 points per contests. Cruz is also the team's top rebounder over the weekend, picking 6.5 caroms per contest.
The two student-athletes are also the team's top scorers overall this season but reverse roles. Cruz is averaging just over 16 points per game which keeps him among the conference
scoring leaders.
Taliaferro continues to use the three-point shot to raise his scoring average, checking into Sunday's action with a 14.0 scoring average. Kevin
Senghore-Peterson has stepped up his play around the rim, coming off a season-high six rebounds against Davidson. The forward now averages 3.1 rebounds every forty minutes, Taj
Benning took over the team lead with his 5.6 rebounding average, garnering five caroms against the Wildcats on Friday night.
The Aggies scored a season-low for points in its 65-42 setback to Temple on Friday. The team is averaging 49.5 points per game over its last four outings after it won its first two games of the season, defeating Northwestern State (77-63) and Louisiana-Monroe (63-57). In the Temple game, Josh Nebo was the only Texas A&M student-athlete to reach double figures with 12 points while
Savion Flagg just missed the mark with nine points. More than half of Texas A&M's shots came from three-point range last Friday as the team connected on six of 33 shots from behind the line (18 percent). For the season, Texas A&M makes 22 percent of its three-point tries and averages 4.7 three pointers per game. Nebo leads the team's offense with 10.8 points per game while
Flagg is next in line with 9.7 points every forty minutes.
Following the game, Fairfield will return to campus for its first game at Alumni Hall when it hosts William & Mary on Sunday, December 8. It's the team's first home game since hosting the University of Massachusetts on November 9. The Stags play just four games in the month of December, including Sunday's date with Texas A&M, after playing seven games in November.
