Stags Stay Hot With 5-0 Win Over Saint Peter’s

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team added five goals to their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) lead as they shutout Saint Peter's 5-0 on the road. The Stags improve to 2-0 in the conference and also extended their unbeaten streak against the Peacocks to 29-straight contests.

Three different Stags (5-3-2, 2-0 MAAC) tallied three points in the contests coming on one goal and one assist. Brooke Hernon was one of the trio as she has now racked up eight points in her last two games. Brooke Jones also netted three points and Liz Dumas scored in her second-straight contest. Stephanie Tsangaris tallied her fourth goal of the season and Jenn Wahlig capped the scoring effort with her first career goal.

The Stags, who out-shot the Peacocks 24-4, touched the back of the net on only their second attempt of the afternoon. Hernon would set up the scoring chance for Dumas who finished for her sixth goal of the year, placing her in a tie for the conference lead.

Dumas would get on the other side of the scoring column as she dished out her first assist of the season, combining with Hanley Courter to find Brooke Jones open in the box.

Hernon needed four minutes in the second half to improve the Stags lead to 3-0 as she sent a ball from nearly 40 yards out to the top corner of the net.

Jones would assist on Tsangaris' score in the 57th minute before Gabby Diodati connected with Wahlig to complete the scoring in the 76th minute. With the point, Diodati picked up her fifth assist of the season which also places her tied for the MAAC lead.

On the defensive side, the Stags surrendered just four Saint Peter's shots and only one of those were on target. Gena Pike picked up the only Fairfield save in her 65 minutes of work while Aytana Muschajew preserved the shutout for the final 25 minutes.

Fairfield will hit the road to complete their road trip when they take the annual Western New York trip to visit Canisius on Saturday at noon.
