Stags Welcome Siena on Tuesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fresh off their first conference victory of the season, the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to build a winning streak when they host the Siena Saints on the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall on Tuesday at 7pm.

The Stags are coming off their best defensive showing of the season, holding Iona to 42 points on just 12 made baskets, the fewest field goals by any Stag opponent this season. The Stags surrendered just 11 first half points and four made baskets, marking the lowest by any opponent in a half this season. In total, the Gaels shot .235 from the floor which also marks a season best for Fairfield.

Sam Kramer led the Stags with 13 points, including the 500th of her career. Eight of those points came from the free throw line, but Kramer did hit two of her three field goal attempts and her only shot from behind the arc. Over the last five games, Kramer is averaging 11 points per game, shooting 55 percent from the field and an even 50 percent from behind the arc.

Although she did not attempt a 3-pointer at Iona, Casey Foley made her leadership presence felt as she logged 40 minutes for the fifth time in the last six games. Foley also moved up to 17th all-time in the program's record books with her 146th career steal. Foley is on the verge of becoming just the third Stag in program history with 250 career assists, 150 steals, and 100 made 3-pointers. Jessica Grossarth and Holli Tapley are the other two Fairfield players.

Siena will come to Alumni Hall with a 9-10 overall record and a 5-3 mark in league play after their 50-46 victory over Saint Peter's

The Saints swatted 10 blocked shots in holding Saint Peter's to 46 points, the lowest total by an opponent this season. Maddie Sims was the focal point of that defensive effort as she tied the program's single game record with seven blocks. Siena had to rally in the contest after struggling through the first quarter and falling behind 14-5.

Sims is the leader in almost every category for the Saints. She also appears near the top in several conference statistics, currently third in the league in rebounding (8.0), first in blocks (1.7), and first in defensive rebounds (6.3). As a team, Siena attacks the basket and gets to the line as they average a league best 22.5 free throw attempts per game.

The Stags will head out on the road for one game when they travel to Riverdale, N.Y., to take on Manhattan on Friday night at 7pm.
