PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – After struggling on offense on Friday against Drexel, the Fairfield field hockey team quickly turned the tide Sunday afternoon as they scored two goals in the first 17 minutes of their contest at Temple. This was all the Stags would need to secure a 2-0 win over the Owls.
The Stags wasted no time in getting on the board as
Danielle Profita pushed the ball up the field passed the Owls defense and took a shot that dinged off the post of the goal disorientating the goalie.
Meghann Maguire was able to follow in behind the play and knock the ball in for her second goal on the season. Profita was given the assist on the play.
Fairfield kept the pressure on the Temple defense early in the first half and took a 2-0 lead just after the 16-minute mark.
Ava Leonhardt made her way up the right side of the field and sent a great pass into the middle where
Malen Iglesias was able to knock it in to the left side of the goal for her first score as a Stag.
The Stags were outshot by the Owls 14-15 and 7-8 on shots on goal but
Zoe Rosen made all eight saves on the game to add to her solid start this season. Both Fairfield and Temple took 5 penalty corners a piece.
Fairfield will return to University Field on Friday, September 7 to take on Holy Cross at 4:30 P.M.
