FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield women's tennis took down Sacred Heart this afternoon by a score of 5-2 in their home opener on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
Freshman duo
Aina March and
Amanda Nowak picked up a win in #2 Doubles defeating Keira Tobia and Sabrina Navarro (6-4) but the Stags dropped the Doubles competition point.
Down 1-0 early, the Stags dominated Singles competition winning five of the six matches with all three freshmen defeating their opponents.
Sophia Prinos started it off with a win over Laura Crivei (6-0, 6-2) in #6 Singles.
Aina March took down Adrianne Alfonso (6-2, 6-1) in #4 Singles while
Amanda Nowak defeated Olivia Podsierbierski in #2 Singles (6-4, 6-3).
Anna Komer won against Keira Tobia in #3 Singles (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) and
Jessica Pil defeated Sabrina Navarro (7-6, 6-1) in #5 Singles.
"I'm really proud of the way we competed today" said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "We came out from the Doubles loss and we were ready to go from the first point of Singles. All three of our freshmen won in Singles which is a huge accomplishment for their first dual match. I am also proud of
Anna Komer who played through some pain, but still found a way to win. Her toughness will help all of us as we move forward."
The Stags will return to action when they take part in the West Point Invitational next weekend from September 28 - 30.
