Stags Swept at Yale in Friday Night Action

Seeger leads the attack with 10 kills

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball was swept by host Yale, 3-0, on Friday evening at the John J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven. The Stags were led offensively by 10 kills on .320 hitting from Laura Seeger.
 
With the loss, Fairfield falls to 1-4 on the season. Yale – the reigning co-champion of the Ivy League – opens its campaign at 1-0. The Bulldogs won the match by set scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-16.
 
Seeger's 10 kills paced an attack that also got five finishers apiece from Sydney Williams and Emily Schillinger. Julia Kallen added four kills and two each came off the swing of Luci Albertson and Mayda Garcia. Rounding out the offense were Sonja Radulovic and Alexis Rich with one kill apiece. Rich managed the attack with 24 assists from the setter spot.
 
Albertson also scored via a service ace and a pair of blocks, including one solo stuff. The Stags also got block assists from Williams, Seeger and Rich. In the back row, Rudeen led the effort with 10 digs. Radulovic added five with Rich and Jamie Calandro each chipping in four.
 
Yale was led by 11 kills from Ellis DeJardin. Frances Arnautou handed out 33 assists while running the attack at a .302 clip, and reigning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year Kate Swanson led all players defensively with 13 digs.
 
The Stags face another short turnaround as they prepare to challenge Hartford tomorrow – Saturday, Sept. 1 – at 1 p.m. The match will be held in Hamden at Quinnipiac's Burt Kahn Court.
 
After this weekend, the Stags return to George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall for the 2018 Fairfield Invitational on Sept. 7-8. The Stags will meet Michigan State, Harvard and Northeastern as a part of the eight-match, five-team tournament.
