HAMDEN, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball was topped by Hartford, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference, in-state action. The Hawks took the match by set scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-6.
Sonja Radulovic neared a double-double for the Stags with nine kills and eight digs. After today's result, the Stags stand at 1-5 and Hartford improves to 2-3.
Radulovic's nine kills marked a season high for the junior. The Stags also got eight finishers from
Laura Seeger, who posted a .273 hitting percentage.
Luci Albertson and
Emily Schillinger added five kills apiece,
Mayda Garcia notched four and
Sydney Williams posted two. Rounding out the attack were
Julia Kallen,
Kaylie Butts and
Alexis Rich, each with one kill. Rich also ran the attack from the setter spot and distributed 30 assists.
On the defensive side,
Taylor Rudeen picked up a team-leading 13 digs as the Fairfield libero. She was flanked in the back row by Radulovic's eight digs, six from Rich and five by
Jamie Calandro. At the net, Williams and Albertson each had a hand in two of Fairfield's four team blocks.
Completing the Stags' scoring on the day, Albertson and Radulovic each landed a service ace.
For the Hawks, Paulina Modestow led all players with 12 kills. Megan Anderson handed out 33 assists to manage the offense, and libero Alex Lucero had a match-high 16 digs for Hartford.
Up next, the Stags return to George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall for the 2018 Fairfield Invitational on Sept. 7-8. The Stags will meet Michigan State on Friday night at 7 p.m. and challenge Harvard and Northeastern on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively, as a part of the eight-match, five-team tournament. Central Connecticut State rounds out the tournament field.
