WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The final day of the men's rowing season ended abruptly when high winds and waves forced the cancellation of most events on the final day of the IRA Championships. The conditions affected the men's varsity 4 and the men's lightweight 4 final races of the competition as both were slated for early morning launches.
Still, the Stags gained experience at the national level by competing against some of the top crews across the country. For the varsity 4, it was the third straight year that the crew rowed at this event, and that experience in the team's success. The lightweight 4 made its IRA debut for the Stags which should help the boat's standings throughout the fall and spring.Â
"It was a disappointing day for Fairfield Crew today when Mother Nature decided that we could not finish the season in the way we would have liked,"Â Men's Rowing Head Coach
Charles Huthmaker said. "Once in a while we are reminded that rowing is a privilege and sometimes we don't get what we prefer. We are ready to start preparing for next year. Congratulations to some great athletes that did get to fulfill their dreams today."
