FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team announced that former Fairfield standout Shireyll Moore will be joining the staff as the Stags' newest assistant coach. Moore, who graduated Fairfield in 2009, brings seven years of coaching experience from Lafayette College, the University of New Haven and most recently three years at Howard University.
 
"We're very pleased to be able to bring Shireyll back home to Fairfield," Head Coach Joe Frager said. "She was one of the best defensive players that I have ever coached, one of the toughest and smartest players that I have coached. It would be a natural evolution for her to get into coaching. We think she's going to have a real positive impact on our program and we can't wait to start working with her again."
 
"I'm super excited to be back," Moore said. "It's very rare that you get an opportunity to be able to come back to your alma mater, so when you get the call it's hard to say no. I'm just happy to be back and being a second generation alum makes it even better. It makes it a family atmosphere."
 
Since graduating Fairfield in 2009, Moore has gained valuable experience in the coaching world. Moore has been on the sidelines of Howard University for the past three years as an assistant coach, helping the Bison to a 16-13 record in 2016, their first winning season in four years. During that season, she also helped mentor the MEAC Player of the Year Te'Shya Heslip, who was also selected to the BOXTOROW All-American First Team.
 
Moore spent the 2014-15 season just up the road at the University of New Haven where she helped the Chargers to 26 wins, the fourth most in program history, which included a school record 16 victories in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Chargers would advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time in nearly three decades.
 
Moore's first coaching spot after Fairfield was at Lafayette College where she spent three years learning under former Fairfield Head Coach Dianne Nolan.
 
When she graduated Fairfield, Moore ranked fifth all-time with 117 games played playing her final two seasons under Frager. In her senior season, she tallied career-highs in points (236), assists (48), and steals (22).
 
Moore's mother, Patrice Wallace-Moore was a member of Fairfield's first Division I season during the 1981-82 campaign, scoring 16 points against Boston University in the school's first-ever Division I contest. She would graduate with 813 points, 574 rebounds, and 469 assists, which still ranks fifth in program history.
